Sunrise + Cayuse & Chinook Passes + Sunrise
Native Planet Classic and Passes of the Pyrenees Training Series

France Training Series: This is part of our training series for the Unique Tours through the France Mountain Passes (Pyrenees, Alps & Corsica).

About this ride: Routes range from 40 to 85 miles. Our short ride (40 miles) up Sunrise offers great Mt Rainier views. The descent is one of the best. The climb to Chinook is also beautiful. Hard core riders will climb Sunrise a second time to pack much elevation in only 85 miles.

Ride Start: From the Crystal bottom parking lot (where RAMROD hosts a food stop with a deli)
Note: There will be a race up Crystal, so look for the Native Planet jerseys to find us.

Meet at: 9:00 AM for a 9:30 AM start.

Itinerary:
Route 1 - 40 miles - Sunrise
Route 2 - 54 miles - Sunrise + Cayuse Pass + Chinook Pass (47 miles if you turn around at Cayuse Pass)
Route 3 - 85 miles - Sunrise + Chinook Pass + Sunrise

Difficulty: The first 5 miles are flat until we reach the Sunrise entrance. Then it's a 15 mile climb to Sunrise. After going down the same route, we will start another 15 mile climb to Cayuse Pass, and then a 3 and half mile climb to Chinook Pass. After a nice descent, the hardcore riders will climb Sunrise one more time. You may turn around at any time, and freewheel back to the parking lot. People are encouraged to ride at their own pace. Because there is no navigation involved, there will be no cue-sheets for this ride. There will be no sweep on this ride.

Pace: Moderate to Super-Strenuous. Stronger riders are welcome to ride up front. Slower riders who can solve possible mechanical problems are also welcome.

Regroup/Experience: No scheduled regroups after the start of the climb. We usually regroup on top of each climb. All riders are expected to be fit enough to participate in this ride and should be able to fix possible flats or problems. We recommend that you carry at least two spare tubes, a pump and a basic tool kit.

Lunch stop: We will stop for a short lunch break on top of Chinook. Bring your lunch.

After Ride Feed: Diner or drink possible in Greenwater on the way back to Enumclaw.

Safety Issues: This ride is recommended for experienced moderate to strenuous cyclists. We encourage people to ride at their own pace and emphasize safety and strict adherence to traffic rules. Be aware of dehydration and heat exhaustion and bring some sunscreen. Helmets must be worn at all times.

Cancellation: Rain cancels/group decision in case of drizzle/light rain. Make sure you RSVP and check this page the night before for updates and possible weather cancellation.

Carpool: NPOC members can arrange carpooling through our online forum.

RSVP: Your response helps us estimate the number of riders (and leads needed), allows us to email you the cue-sheets, and allows us to tell you if there are any last minute ride changes due to weather/road conditions or other emergencies.
